M. Chapoutier, Ermitage ‘Le Meal’ Blanc
M. Chapoutier, Ermitage ‘Le Meal’ Blanc
Tasting note from barrel (April 2020): Le Méal white: smoky aromas dominate, concealing the solar side of this wine. The notes of exotic fruits, mango and roast pineapple on the palate complete the wine’s creamy notes, subtly reminding us of the solar nature of the plot, but without its excesses.
With its south-facing terraces of pebbles and loess, this steep hillside is the sunniest terroir in the Hermitage appellation. With grapes that are almost roasted by the time of the harvest, the Marsanne produces full-bodied wines with naturally smoky notes of exotic fruit and hints of tomato leaves and acacia honey. Tempered by the freshness of the clay present at depth, the wines retain both complexity and elegance.
M Chapoutier’s ‘Selections Parcellaires’ (Single Vineyard Selectons) are exceptional wines, born from a single plot. A celebration of terroir. Farmed biodynamically with the highest respect for the soil, the vines and the environment.
