M. Chapoutier, Ermitage ‘De L’Oree’ Blanc Magnum
Tasting note from barrel (April 2020): De L’Orée: the emerging oxidation-reduction balance of the wine indicates some great Marsanne vintages. The delivery is a fine summary of the highly unctuous power and acidity of the Marsanne, producing an exceptional and complex wine. The honeysuckle notes bring a touch of lightness. Salinity in the finish completes the structure of the wine, which is sublime.
The “kingdom of the whites” on the Hermitage hill, the “Les Murets” lieu-dit gives us complete and well-rounded fine wines. Its heavy, iron-oxide-laden clay soils give the wines volume and aromatic power, while the coolness of its easterly position preserves balance and complexity. Here, the Marsanne develops notes of honeysuckle and roasted sweetcorn and creates noble bitters on the finish.
M Chapoutier’s ‘Selections Parcellaires’ (Single Vineyard Selectons) are exceptional wines, born from a single plot. A celebration of terroir. Farmed biodynamically with the highest respect for the soil, the vines and the environment.
