PONTET CANET 2019 75CL
Pontet Canet has been with the Tesseron family since 1975 but only began its road to fame under the stewardship of Alfred Tesseron from 1994. The property is an over-achiever versus its 5th growth classification, which is no surprise when you know the vineyard neighbours that of Mouton Rothschild. Pontet Canet was one of Bordeaux’s early adopters of biodynamic viticulture and by 2007 they had completely stopped using chemicals. It is this coupled with meticulous care in all areas of the estate management that has propelled the image of the estate and its wines to the level of the super seconds of the Médoc. The 81 hectare vineyard is made up of two single blocks located just across the road and just slightly south from Chateaux Mouton Rothschild. These two large vineyard parcels can be further subdivided into 92 separate blocks. Winemkaing and ageing at Pontet Canet is avant garde with the latest innovations in place, including stainless steel conical vats, concrete eggs and amphorae. The resulting wine is incredibly pure and concentrated and has the ability to contest the best wines of Bordeaux in ripe vintages, which is the case in 2019.
