The 2022 Certan de May was picked on 7 September for the Merlot and 20 September for both Cabernets. It’s a Pomerol that has left me perplexed in recent vintages, despite the counsel of Jean-Claude Berrouet, and once again, I seek more fruit intensity and complexity on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannins and rounded red fruit, pretty earthy in style. It needs more backbone and brightness on the finish, so it appears to be a candidate for early drinking vis-à-vis its peers.
Anticipated maturity: 2027-2042
