Château Hosanna, a jewel-like vineyard is located in the heart of Pomerol’s central plateau, adjacent to some of the most illustrious crus of the appellation: Lafleur to the north; Petrus to the east; La Fleur-Pétrus to the west and Vieux Château Certan to the south. At just 4.5 hectares it is not well known, due in part to its recent creation by Ets. Moueix only 20 years ago. The vineyard enjoys a terroir of red gravel and clay on “crasse de fer” which is known for producing wines of great elegance, complexity and power. The vineyard is planted 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc, a significant portion of which date back to 1956, contribute a unique complexity to the wine. In the past few years the wine has made considerable leaps in quality and after a stellar 2019 where a new bar was set, 2020 might just pip it be the best vintage ever produced.

The 2020 Hosanna is packed with blackberry jam, chocolate, new leather, licorice and spices. Unctuous and flamboyant, Hosanna is always incredibly distinctive. In 2020, I find Hosanna a bit monolithic and less complex than its two Pomerol stable mates (La Fleur-Pétrus and Trotanoy) but it certainly offers tons of immediacy. Hosanna is always a soloist, never an orchestra. [Antonio Galloni, 01/06/2021]
