The Rhône is a diverse and ancient vineyard. The valley divides between the timeless Syrah focused styles of Côte-Rôtie and Hermitage in the north and the Grenache based blends of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the south. Though rare, the Rhône’s whites wines are perfumed, textured and gastronomic. Bold and fruit driven in their youth, developing a broad spectrum of savoury, earthy and exotic spices as they age, the longevity and drinkability of Rhône wines throughout their evolution make them a sensible and immensely enjoyable purchase.
With regular and growing praise from the world’s leading critics and a spate of great vintages, the top wines are of excellent quality and in high demand. Without a defined cru system the Rhône may be a difficult region to navigate, so Le Clos has chosen a small selection of wines whose scarcity and reputation make them best suited to buying “En primeur”, at the best possible price, before they have been snapped up.
